SUBJECT: Success Story from Dwayne Ross and his Parents

We are very pleased and grateful of your efforts and dedication in helping Dwayne improves his abilities to learn, and understand and appreciate the value of education. We also want to thank all staff members and teachers for having an open door to us any time we had concerns of Dwayne’s progress in academics and his behavior and addressing our concerns timely and professionally. We are also thankful that the Anne Arundel Board of Education referred Dwayne to High Road Academy. We were reluctant in the beginning to enroll Dwayne in High Road Academy because we thought Dwayne would have difficulties moving to another school. However, you have captured Dwayne and our trust from day one that you would help Dwayne.

Dwayne has come a long way from where he used to be. We notice improvements in his skills and confidence immediately. When Dwayne attended public schools and Norbel, his academic skills in reading, writing and math were extremely low, and so was his self-esteem. In public schools, the other students would make fun of him because of is lack of knowledge and it hurt him deeply. We will never forget when Dwayne was 7 years old, we were helping him with his homework and he held his head in distressed and cried saying he could not learned no matter how hard he tried. He told us he really wanted to learn so that the other kids would stop making fun of him. He would get in trouble in class often because he would play in class while the teachers were instructing since he could not understand the lessons.

Now, it’s good to see Dwayne smile when it comes to education. He no longer has low self-esteem. We have seen much improvement in his reading, writing and math skills. He has developed confidence in himself to accomplish any task he sets his mind to. As parents, we will always be protective of Dwayne and we pray that Dwayne will continue to improve in his academic skills and he will not regress in his skills and confidence when he goes back to public school. However, Dwayne believes he is up for the challenge of being a good student in public school and we support him. Again, thank you for your good work, and in helping our son believes he can learn.

Sincerely,

Wayne & Shirley Ross
